Church of Virgin Mary of Loreto
Local name: Kostol Loretánskej Panny Márie
The Church of Our Lady of Loreto, also called because of the order taking care of it, the Ursuline Church is located in the Old Town of Bratislava. It is a small, one-nave building with a wooden tower topped with a Baroque cupola above the entrance. Inside, you can see the late Baroque main altar with statues of the Virgin Mary surrounded by saints Barbara, Catherine of Alexandria, Ursula and Agnieszka.
The church was built in the mid-seventeenth century as a Protestant temple. Hence its very simple form. The only decoration of the facade is a small tower located above the entrance. The interior is covered with a barrel vault. The main and side altars come from the 18th century. They are made of wood and covered with polychrome.
In the main altar there is a figurine of the Black Madonna worshiped. It is hidden behind the glass in the central part. On the sides are the holy women worshiping her, and above all there is a symbol of the Holy Trinity.
