Nedbalka Gallery
Local name: Galéria Nedbalka
Galeria Nedbalka is a cultural institution that promotes contemporary Slovak art. Its purpose is to show the birth and development of modernism. At permanent exhibitions located in an eclectic building in the Old Town area, you can see the works of Slovak artists of the 20th century. Three exhibitions show the stages of development of Slovak painting, and the last one concerns the activities of the Mikulasa Galandy group.
The four floors of the Gallery contain works of the most important Slovak artists of the 20th century. Painting dominates in which one can trace its entire development and change the ways of presenting the world for subsequent generations. The exhibition showing the beginnings of modernism is still firmly rooted in 19th century models, while the painters who created at the end of the 20th century reach for completely new solutions and means of expression. The painting exhibition is supplemented with sculptures arranged in the rooms. The museum also presents temporary exhibitions from many European and world museums.
