Church of the rising of the Holy Cross
Local name: Kostol Povýšenia Svätého Kríža
The Church of the Poor Clares (Kostol Klarisiek) in Bratislava is a Gothic, one-nave temple supported by huge slopes. The pentagonal tower, decorated with sculptural elements, stands out in its shape. Currently, the church is not used for religious purposes. Cultural events and concerts take place here.
Poor Clares came to Bratislava in 1297. At the beginning of the fourteenth century, with the help of the rulers, they built their church and monastery. They lived here until 1782, when the order was closed and the monastery closed down by imperial order. The building was intended for a school. Currently, due to the great acoustics of the church interior, there is a concert hall here.
The simple, one-nave Gothic building is decorated with a rare pentagonal tower. Inside, elements of the church's interior have been preserved, such as the main altar, the pulpit with symbols of Faith, Hope and Love, and Baroque organs.
