Church of St. Stephen

Local name: Kostol sv. Štefana

St. Stephen's Church in Bratislava is located within the Old Town. It is a small, simple building from the 18th century. It is part of the Capuchin monastery complex. Its facade is decorated with a figure of the Hungarian King Stefan the Great. His image can also be seen inside the main altar.

The church was built in the second half of the 18th century. Due to the strict poverty rule that applies to Capuchins, it has a very modest appearance. The building has no tower. In its block one can notice both classical and neo-Gothic influences. Very simple, bright interior is decorated with wood carved stations of the cross. The classical altar is also made of wood. The central image shows the first Hungarian king, Saint Stephen, staring at the sky, in the figure of the Assumed Virgin Mary.
