Park "Nicolae Romanescu"

Local name: Parcul "Nicolae Romanescu"

The extensive park is one of the largest parks in Europe. It was established at the beginning of the 20th century on the initiative of Nicolae P. Romanescu, the then mayor of the city. It is home to one of the oldest zoos in Romania. Here you can see animals such as lions, tigers, jaguars, bears, wolves and ostriches.

In the center of the park there is a lake with a fountain. You can often see wild ducks and swans floating on it. There is also a historic suspension bridge built in 1901-1902 during the construction of the park itself. In its vicinity there is a former restaurant, now transformed into the Magic Castle open to tourists.

There is a hippodrome in the park, opened in 1903 and now used for equestrian and track and field competitions. Also worth seeing is the Gloriette, a small gazebo standing on a hill near the Romanescu bust.
