Admiral Vasile Urseanu Observatory

Local name: Observatorul Amiral Vasile Urseanu

Admiral Vasile Urseanu Observatory is the only astronomical observatory in Bucharest open to the public. It hosts daytime and evening sky observations as well as astronomical presentations shown in the planetarium, during which you can see the moon, outer space and other planets.

The observatory houses a permanent exhibition devoted to the exploration of the universe. It is divided into two parts. The first allows you to get to know the solar system, stars, galaxies and planets better. The second part focuses on presenting to visitors a variety of space probes and providing information on space research.

The observatory was built in 1908-1910 on the initiative of Admiral Vasile Urseanu. They were then equipped with a Zeiss telescope with a diameter of 150 mm, which was the third largest telescope in Romania at that time.
