The ethnographic museum is primarily dedicated to the culture of rural Romania. His collection includes over 100,000 exhibits depicting the realities of Romanian peasants' lives over the centuries. In 1996, the facility was recognized as the "European Museum of the Year".
The ceramics collection includes 18,000 items from 200 pottery centers in the country. The full list of pottery workshops from Hunedoara and Valcei in the nineteenth century is also stored here. The oldest exhibit is dated 1746. The collection of costumes consists of nearly 20,000 costumes from all Romanian provinces since the first half of the nineteenth century. In the collection of furniture and items made of wood and metal has 8,000 exhibits. Among them is the gate made by Antoni Mogos in 1907. There is also a collection of 4,000 religious artifacts.
A historic wooden church from the 18th century stands in the museum courtyard. It was moved from its original location in 1992.
