The museum's collections contain over 70,000 works of art. They include both Romanian art collections and masterpieces of European art. You can watch here, among others paintings by El Greco, Rubens, Rembrandt, Monet and Picasso. There is also an extensive collection of contemporary Romanian sculptures, including works by Brâncu czyieo and Paciureia.
Separate exhibitions are devoted to medieval art. You can find here, among others works of art saved from Romanian churches and monasteries. In two rooms, thematic temporary exhibitions are regularly exhibited.
The museum was founded in 1948. It is housed in the former Royal Palace, dating from 1837. Initially, the museum collection consisted mainly of collections belonging to King Charles I. Over time, they were enriched with numerous private collections. In 1989, during the Romanian revolution, the museum was partially destroyed. They were not opened again until 2000.
