BÂRLAD tourist attractions

+6 attractions

Bârlad is a city of historical Moldova, which over the centuries was in the sphere of influence of various countries and cultures. Today, its buildings are a mixture of trends known from Austria-Hungary, elements typical of eastern Romania and almost 50 years of communist construction.

The city was founded on the site of a Roman military camp in the first centuries. It was primarily a stop for merchants going towards Jassy. It is now a local administrative and commercial center.

As in many cities in this part of Romania, also in Bârlad there is no strictly separated, uniform, historic center. Older buildings are adjacent to post-war and completely modern buildings. The most impressive are the eclectic building of the Vasile Pârvan Bârlad Museum and the neoclassical Church of St. Elijah . There is also the 19th century Orthodox Church of St. George and the Church of St. Jana and the historic Sturdz House with a museum exhibition.

Another attraction is the Zoo Bârlad . Although small, it allows you to spend your time in an interesting way.
