Arad Museum Complex

Local name: Complexul Muzeal Arad

The extensive Arad Museum Complex includes three museums: archaeological and historical, natural sciences and art. It is located in the historic city Palace of Culture, built in 1911-1913. The collections gathered in total amount to over 125,000 exhibits.

The archaeological and historical department has 2,000 exhibits, presented in 15 exhibition halls. They are arranged chronologically, starting from the Neolithic and Bronze Age, through finds devoted to the Dac and Celtic culture, then the Middle Ages and the period of the formation of the Kingdom of Hungary, to the revolution in the nineteenth century and modern times. The collections include, among others tools, armor, weapons, clothes, documents and flags.

Another 4 exhibition halls are dedicated to nature collections, depicting the Solar System and the history of space travel, mineralogical collections and an extensive palaeontological collection. A separate building houses an art collection of works by European and Romanian artists from the 16th to the 20th centuries.
