Bastion of the Saxons

Local name: Bastionul Sașilor

The Saxon Bastion is located in the south-eastern part of the medieval fortress of Alba Iulia. It was built in the years 1613-1629 during the reign of the Transylvanian prince Gabriel Bethlen. Its name refers to the fact that the construction of the bastion was funded by the Saxon community living in Transylvania. Currently, the Saxon Bastion is located on the tourist trail of the Three Fortifications.
