Coronation Cathedral
Local name: Catedrala Încoronării
The cathedral was built in the Byzantine style in the early 1920s. Its architecture clearly shows the inspiration of the royal church of Târgoviște, the former coronation site of Wallachian rulers. It is adjacent to a belfry with a height of 52 m. At the entrance to the cathedral you can see the busts of King Ferdinand and Queen Maria.
The church was built on a Greek cross plan, with an open porch supported by four columns. The side niches contain marble slabs depicting four important historical events, including the unification of the country by Michał Waleczny against the Turks in 1600 and the peasant uprising in Transylvania, which took place in 1784-1785.
While visiting the temple, it is also worth seeing the historic iconostat, furniture and benches made of oak. They are decorated with motifs inspired by the Brancoveanu style, also called the Romanian Renaissance.
