Civitas Tropaensium is a Roman fortified camp located in the modern town of Adamclisi. It was founded in the 3rd century AD and survived until 587, when it was plundered and destroyed by the Avars. Currently, the partially exposed remains of the Roman fortress have the status of an archaeological and natural reserve.
In the area of Civitas Tropaensium, among others, a triumphal monument commemorating the victory of the Roman Empire over the Dacians and dating back to the beginning of the 2nd century. In a short distance from the monument, there is also a tombstone and an altar for Roman soldiers who died in this area.
Within a half-hour walk from the excavations, there is a museum where you can see some of the exhibits found in the camp.
