The church of São Bento da Vitória in Porto is a monumental temple officially opened in 1707. When visiting this place, it is worth paying attention to the richly carved and gilded woodwork, especially the baroque altar made in 1716-1719 by Gabriel Rodrigues. Also noteworthy are the two Rococo altars dedicated to the Blessed Sacrament and Mother of God from 1755 made by woodcarvers José da Fonseca Lima and José Martins Tinoco.
The church originally belonged to the monastery of the Benedictine order, who came to port in the 16th century. The characteristic elements of its interior include carved stalls, created by Marceliano de Araújo and Gabriel Rodrigues in the years 1716-1719. The individual panels present various episodes from the life of Saint. Benedict. Today, the church and monastery of São Bento da Vitória is an important cultural center of the city.
