The Chapel of Souls is one of the most beautiful and recognizable churches in Porto. Its facade is covered with traditional azulejo tiles depicting scenes such as the death of Saint Francis of Assisi and the martyrdom of Saint Catherine and several other scenes from the lives of the saints. In total, there are 15,947 tiles, with a total area of 360 square meters. The author of this decoration is Eduardo Leite.
The Chapel of Souls was built at the beginning of the 18th century, while the blue and white tiles were covered in 1929. Azulejo was restored in 1982. The interior of the temple, although simple, is also interesting. There is a picture of the Mother of God of Souls that was placed in the temple at the beginning of construction. The Chapel of Souls is located in the middle of Rua de Santa Catarina, one of the city's most famous shopping streets.
