Bolhao Market is the most famous market in Porto. Known and appreciated since 2006, when it was classified as a place of public interest. It is located in a magnificent neoclassical building from 1850 with an iron structure with two floors. The spacious hall is divided into many smaller commercial spaces, which are grouped into individual thematic sections.
At the market you can find mainly fresh local products, for example meat, fish, bread, dairy products, vegetables, fruits, flowers and herbs. In addition, you can buy wine, spices, various ceramics and souvenirs there. From the outside, the market is surrounded by numerous shops, with shop windows directed to four surrounding streets: Fernandes Tomás (north), Alexandre Braga (east), Formosa (south) and Sá da Bandeira (west). In the market hall you can also eat, buy snacks and have a coffee.
