Nazaré is a popular resort on the Atlantic coast of Portugal. The city consists of two parts, an old fishing village on a cliff and a new, recreational area below it, on the beach. They are connected by a funicular overcoming in a few minutes about 100 meters of level difference. Nazaré is also a mecca for surfers and a place where the world record was broken in the height of the wave on which the surfer stayed.
Former Nazaré was a fishing village with traditional stone buildings, a Manueline-style church and a fishing port below the cliff hidden in a bay sheltered from the winds. His character began to change in the mid-20th century with the arrival of the tourist boom. Below the 100-meter Klif Sitio a leisure district was created with hotels, restaurants and bars. Here is also the bottom station of the cable car, which you can climb to the cliff and the Miradouro viewpoint to Suberco located near the lighthouse. Due to the views it is a very popular place for trips, especially at sunset, which viewed from this place is breathtaking.
Nazaré can boast of a wide sandy beach partly sheltered from the wind by a coastal cliff. At the bottom of the sea there is an underwater ditch that causes the rise of very high waves. Therefore, this place is visited by surfers from around the world who hope to break the record of Garrett McNamara, who was surfing here on a 23-meter wave.
