The Cinematography Museum is an institution established to commemorate Portugal's film output. At three permanent exhibitions, it shows devices that were used to show moving images before the invention of the cinematograph. In addition, it organizes film screenings, film festivals, workshops, meetings with directors and actors.
The museum was founded in 1948. His collection includes negatives, films and films from the entire history of Portuguese cinematography. Three permanent exhibitions are devoted to ways of obtaining moving images before the cinema era. Here you can see the so-called magic lamps, shadow play sets, puppets and animated dolls.
The museum is also a cultural institution. His collections are presented in the form of special screenings, film reviews or thematic screenings. Great emphasis is placed on educational activities directed primarily at children.
