Botanical Garden of the University of Lisbon
Local name: Jardim Botânico da Universidade de Lisboa
Located inside:
National Museum of Natural History and Science
Botanical garden formerly owned by the University of Lisbon, and now part of the Natural History Museum. It was designed in the second half of the nineteenth century and is today an oasis of peace and quiet almost in the city center.
The garden consists of two parts. The first, flat, was conceived as a geometric garden referring to the Baroque assumptions. First of all, flowers, herbs and low shrubs grow here. The second, located on the slope of the hill is an arboretum with trees imported from all continents, which now form a thicket similar to a natural forest.Less
