Old Market Square

Local name: Stary Rynek

Old Market Square is a traditional part of the city, still in the 13th century, until now it is the central point of the Green Mountains. Most of the buildings surrounding it are from the 19th and 20th centuries. The attractive "Pod Sowa" and town hall are attractive. On the sidewalk of the promenade under the glass you can see settlement layers from the fourteenth century and relics of old buildings. There is no traffic on the square.

At the beginning of its existence, the Zielona Góra market served as a market square, cut by the main transport route. Until the 60s of the last century there was a stand of cabs, and after World War II also taxis and buses. Although most of the houses around the market are no more than one hundred years old, the original medieval dwellings are plots on which they stand. The oldest buildings in the eastern wing date back to the 18th century. Near the relics of medieval buildings, there are small Bachusik figurines.

The square is rectangular in size 60x160 m. To this day, it leaves six streets in an irregular pattern. The central part of the square occupies the town hall. There are decorative lanterns, flowerbeds and numerous walkers on the pedestrian zone.
