Church of Our Lady of Częstochowa
Local name: Kościół Matki Bożej Częstochowskiej
MB Czestochowa's church in Zielona Góra is a monumental structure in half-timbered style, complemented by a brick tower. The interior is equipped with three-storey balconies. The most interesting monuments of the church are the baroque main altar and pulpit, the rococo stone baptismal baroque organ prospect and a collection of 18th century epitaph plates decorated with reliefs.
The building was built between 1746 - 1748, and its first host was the evangelical church. The church has a plan of the Greek cross. The building material was taken from the demolished city walls. In the hands of Catholics the temple has remained since 1946. The interior of the historic equipment is partly made of wood. This includes the pulpit, the Cancelhum bulkhead, separating the chancel from the nave part, and the organ roll. The quadrangular tower of the church was crowned with a small terrace and an octagonal spire.
The patroness of the church is Our Lady of Czestochowa, hence the painting adorning the main altar is a faithful copy of Jasna Gora, representing Our Lady of Czestochowa - Patroness of Poland. As in Jasna Gora, the ceremony of unveiling the image is performed before each mass.
