Braniborska Tower

Local name: Wieża Braniborska

The Braniborsk Tower is a very attractive architectural monumental observation tower, currently under the supervision of the University of Zielona Góra and the Polish Society of Astronomy Fans. At its peak, there is an astronomical observatory and the tour requires an appointment.

The visually interesting tower consists of two parts - the lower one, the hexagon, topped with a terrace running around the building and the upper, also hexagonal, but with much smaller cross-section. The top of the building is equipped with a rotating dome under which the telescope is located. The facility was built between 1859-1860 and its purpose was to provide restaurant functions in conjunction with the viewpoint. For many decades the monument has been neglected until 1988, when it was subjected to restaurants and designated for scientific purposes.

Raised by the efforts of the Association of City Development and Lovers, the lookout tower in the 20th century was called a mug pot. Regional specialties served at the restaurant. By 1914, at the top of the tower was also a planetarium.
