Bath (Hunger) Tower
Local name: Wieża Łaziebna (Głodowa)
The 35-meter Łazienna Tower is a unique historical attraction of Zielona Góra, as it is one of the few monuments preserved from the Middle Ages. The building is covered with a baroque helmet with a lantern built in the 18th century. In the basement you can see traces of the brick passage of the old gate leading to the church of Sts. Jadwiga.
The Bathroom Tower was built in the early 15th century as part of the city fortifications. It had observational functions, and the villagers in the village facilitated communication with the church. Originally the building was only 20 meters high. The dimensions of the rectangular base are 4.32m x 7.22m. The original gatehouse, which was in the basement, was erected at the end of the 15th century, probably due to its small size. Next to it was a magnificent Brama Nova, known only from prints.
It is interesting to note that after the wall was closed, it was impossible to get inside the tower. In order to use it, the window opening was enlarged to allow access to the guards. After change, they could rest in their room. Its name derives from the nearby bathhouse. It is also often called the Starfish, confused with another gate in Zielona Góra.
