The Old Town in Zamość is surrounded by a bastion fortress. These are the fortifications from the time of the city's construction, that is, from the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. Renovated from the years 2005 to 2014, it has been restored to its former glory. Brick, powerful bastions and overcasts along with the moat create a magnificent monument of military architecture.
Jan Zamojski built his ideal city in the early 17th century and decided to surround it with a fortress. It has a layout based on Italian cities. The collapses are arranged in a star shape, with bastions in the corners. In the following centuries the fortress was adapted to new military techniques. In the first half of the nineteenth century it was considered obsolete and was allocated to warehouses. Part of the building was demolished. At the beginning of the 21st century Zamość fortress, which as an integral part of the Old Town is listed on the UNESCO list has undergone a thorough revitalization.
During the renovation, moats were cleaned, old walls were cleaned and repaired. In Bastion VII, an underground tourist route was built, and a viewing terrace on its surface. Around the perimeter of the fortress there were also walkways and benches.
