Main Square in Zamość is one of the most beautiful and most representative city squares typical for the architecture of XVI century. The frontages are ornamented with beautiful Renaissance tenement houses with colorful facades together with antique Town Hall. The Main Square is on the list of UNESCO monuments.
The area of the market is an ideal square with side 100 meters framed by four frontages. From each one of them only one street goes away and it is made up of eight arcaded tenement houses in which today you can admire the original polychromes, wooden ceilings and portals in the Renaissance style. Situated in one of the frontages admirable Town Hall with monumental stairs is the background for annual theatre performances of Zamość Cultural Summer. What's interesting about the market square, is the fact, that each of tenement houses has its own history. Especially four Armenian tenements – in which the Museum of Zamość is located - are worthy of attention. Next to them are situated : tenement of Councilman Jan Wilczek, Rudomiczowska tenement, Under the Angel, Under the Marriage and many more. The Main Square is the place of many important events and meetings of residents.Less
