Rynek Wodny

Local name: Rynek Wodny

The fountain at the Water Market in Zamość is a truly fairy-tale spectacle, which is presented after darkness and the composition of water and light shimmers with all colors of the rainbow. Streams of water gushing straight from granite slabs form three ranks changing height and color. The performance can be enjoyed from the benches nearby.

The fountain in the Zamość market square is not typical, because it does not have a timbered wall and a water reservoir, and the streams are shot from nozzles placed directly in the pavement slabs. Only a slight lowering protects the feet of spectators from getting wet and limits the water zone flowing into the underground reservoir.

In summer, during the daytime, you can sit on one of the benches and listen to music coming from the open windows of a nearby music high school. The fountain was created on the Water Market as a souvenir of the Łabuńka River flooding here. The market square protected the city from flooding during floods, because thanks to its lower location it collected water pouring from the river after spring thaws. The current appearance of the Market is the result of reconstruction in 2010.
