Diocesan Museum

Local name: Muzeum Diecezjalne

The Diocesan Museum in Zamosc is housed in the buildings of the diocesan curia. His collections include first and foremost sacred art, both western and eastern, as well as artistic crafts and souvenirs from the visit of John Paul II in Zamość.

The museum was founded in 2000. His collection comes from the parishes belonging to the diocese of Zamość. Its territory until 1947 was inhabited in large part by the Orthodox and Greek Catholics. For this reason, a significant part of the collection is an icon from the nearby Orthodox church, which was deserted after the resettlement of the Ukrainian population. The most valuable of them come from the 16th and 17th centuries from Narol, Gorecki Church, Płazow and Goryslawic.

Sacral sculptures and artisanal items, such as chalices and liturgical vessels, liturgical vestments and decorative items, are also included in the collection. A separate exhibition is a memorial from the visit of Pope John Paul II in Zamosc, including the Papal throne.
