White Stork Synagogue

Local name: Synagoga Pod Białym Bocianem

The monumental synagogue included in the Four Denominations District is not only an interesting monument but also a place where many cultural, charity, theatrical and didactic events related to the Jewish culture are organized. Havdalah concerts of klezmer, classic, and synagogue music, and also songs take place once a month on Saturday. The choir operates near the synagogue.

The classicist building of synagogue is also interesting. It's characterized by clearly standing out parts of the Roman architecture. Especially worthy of attention are the east and south facade, and octagonal roof lantern topping the church. The interior consists of clearly separated side galleries for women who didn't participate directly in prayers, and added at the beginning of the 20th century external staircases which lead to them. The decorated Torah ark reconstructed from the preserved remains is also interesting.

The synagogue was returned to the Jewish Community in 1996 and since that time is frequently renovated. The synagogue plays an important role in the promotion of Jewish culture.
