Wilcza Góra (367 m) towers over Złotoryja in Pogórze Kaczawskie. It is a former volcanic cone composed of basalt and the only place in Poland where stone roses can be admired. There is also the preserved cross section of the volcanic neck.
Wilcza Góra, also known as Wilkołak (Werewolf), fascinated people since the oldest times. A place of worship was probably located here. The lone dark rock towering over the area was considered a place of supernatural powers. Nowadays, the basalt quarry operates here. The rest of the mountain is protected by the nature reserve. Apart from rocks, protected is also vegetation including very rare maidenhair spleenwort.Werewolf is a single rock with a torn side. Columnar basalt rocks can be admired here. Its stone roses - columnar rocks of spiral shapes - are unique on a national scale. Beautiful views of the area can be watched from the top.Less
