Museum of John Paul II
Local name: Muzeum Jana Pawła II
The John Paul II Museum is located in the Pokamedul Monastery in Wigry. The mall has souvenirs and items related to the pope. One of the most interesting exhibits is the canoe folding type "PAX" prod. The GDR from 1957, on which Karol Wojtyla swam along the Suwalszczyzna rivers.
The museum was not chosen by accident. In 1999 Pope John Paul II, during a pilgrimage to the country, stayed in this monastery for a few days to rest.
The establishment consists of the Papal Chapel in which the Holy Father celebrated Mass. Besides, there are Papal apartments, where the pope was resting. They consist of living room and bedroom. Their appearance has not changed since the guest's visit, so visitors can see under what conditions he lived. In addition, there is a reading room and a library containing works and publications on John Paul II.
