Maria Konopnicka Square is located in the center of Suwałki and is surrounded by historic tenement houses with eclectic and classicist architecture. Tall trees grow here to provide shade on hot days. Outdoor events and concerts are held here regularly.
The square is located on the tourist route of Maria Konopnicka "Dwarves are in the world". There is a bronze statue of Maria Konopnicka and a child standing next to her. It was placed in 2010, on the hundredth anniversary of the poet's death. by Bohdan Chmielewski in 1962. Near the monument, you can see figures of dwarfs depicting the heroes of the book "About dwarfs and orphans of Marys".
It was a market square until the first half of the 19th century. At that time, it had a paved surface and numerous wooden booths. After World War II, the market was transformed into a square, and then a small park. The place owes its present appearance to the reconstruction in the second decade of the 21st century.
