Pantheon of the Great Poles

Local name: Panteon Wielkich Polaków

The Pantheon of the Great Poles, located in the lower part of the Temple of Divine Providence in Warsaw is a place dedicated for burials and memory of the most prominent Polish patriots, and people of culture and science. There are graves of, among others, priests: Jan Twardowski, Zdzisław Peszkowski, Józef Joniec, Andrzej Kwaśnik, and Zdzisław Król; politicians: Krzysztof Skubiszewski, Ryszard Kaczorowski, Stefan Korboński; and independence activists: Stefan Korboński, Zofia Korbońska, Wanda Szadkowska, and Wiktor Węgrzyn.

There is also a symbolic grave of John Paul II, a faithful copy of the tomb in the Vatican Caves. The pantheon also houses relics of Blessed Jerzy Popiełuszko, Saint John Paul II, and Saint Andrzej Bobola. The integral part of the place is Aleja Darczyńców (Donor's Alley). It consists of plaques commemorating people who supported the construction of the ring-shaped temple surrounding the pantheon.
