Łazienki Park Amphitheatre

Local name: Amfiteatr w Łazienkach Królewskich

Located inside: Łazienki Park

The Amphitheater in Łazienki is a neoclassical building built in the neighborhood of the Palace on the Island, designed for theatrical performances. This place is full of the functions assigned to it, and in summer you can see more than one art here, or listen to a concert of classical music.

The first object in the present place was a terrestrial theater only five years later - in 1790 - taking the form of stone. The designer of the building was Jan Chrystian Kamsetzer, who based his idea on the famous city of Herculaneum, destroyed along with Pompeii by the Vesuvius eruption. The amphitheater is divided into two parts, and the audience and stage are separated by a water channel. The audience is semi-circular, and its wide arc is adorned with arcades of famous dramatic characters. Sculptures also appear in the neighborhood of the scene.

The amphitheater scene is decorated with romantic ruins, which at the same time serve as theatrical scenery. The team is complemented by a small building for the actors and a moat in which the orchestra takes place. In 2015 the amphitheater underwent a thorough refurbishment.
