Monument to Józef Piłsudski in front of the Belvedere was founded by the inhabitants of Warsaw as a thank you for the city's defense in 1920. One of the inscriptions on the pedestal is: "Your Defender in 1920 - Warsaw". It was designed by Polish contemporary sculptor - Stanislaw Kazimierz Wacław Ostrowski.
Jerzy Waldorff was the initiator of the fundraising for the creation of the monument. The project commenced by the Social Committee of Construction of the Monument to Marshal Józef Piłsudski. His unveiling took place in 1998, the daughter of the Marshal - Jadwiga Piłsudska-Jaraczewska, present with him.
The monument was built before the outbreak of World War II, since then it was kept in the Royal Baths in the Old Orange Building. It was based on bronze castings from cannon shells donated by the Ministry of National Defense, which stood in front of the Belvedere.
