Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Local name: Kościół Narodzenia NMP

The Warsaw Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in 1682–1732. It adjoined the Carmelite cloak monastery. There is a copy of the image of Our Lady of Bialystok. Unfortunately, the original disappeared during the Warsaw Uprising. In 2012, two loud thefts were made here - first, the Mother of God's historic baroque dress was stolen, and the next day the image of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary became famous in connection with plans to expand the former al. Świerczewskiego. After preparations lasting several months, on the night of November 30 to December 1, 1962, the church was moved by over 21 meters. It was then the first in Europe and the third in the world displacement of a sacred object. The place of the former location of the monument was marked on the pavement and road with granite blocks.
