Tomb and Museum of Fr. Jerzy Popiełuszko
Local name: Grób i Muzeum ks. Jerzego Popiełuszki
The place commemorates the life and martyrdom of priest Jerzy Popiełuszko. The grave monument designed by Jerzy Kalina is located in the church of St. Stanisław Kostka. It was in this church that Popiełuszko celebrated his famous Masses for the Homeland in Poland. The grave has the shape of a barrow with a granite cross lying on it. The whole is surrounded by a rosary of stones arranged in the shape of Polish borders.
A museum dedicated to the person of priest Popiełuszko was created in the basement of the said church. The exhibition presents his growing up, priestly calling, the historical conditions in which he lived, important people for him, the history of death and subsequent efforts for beatification. The museum is modern and multimedia which additionally attracts tourists and facilitates sightseeing.
