Church of the Holy Trinity

Local name: Kościół Trójcy Przenajświętszej

The Church of the Holy Trinity in Tykocin is a late-Baroque basilica with many valuable and impressive monuments. One of them is the goblet used by John Paul II himself, and the monumental pipe organs used in concerts.

The church was built in the 18th century. The frontal facade consists of two towers connected with the basilica by arches. The entire structure is covered with bright yellow clay plasterwork while the roof is composed of red tiles.

The basilica consists of three naves. The interior contains beautiful paintings, wall polychromies from 1749 and the richly decorated main altar from around 1750. The side naves, on the other hand, consists of six wonderfully gilded and polychromed altars. The Rococo pipe organs can be spotted on the choir balcony. They are a very valuable and unique piece of art.

One of the most valuable items in the church is the goblet used by Pope John Paul II who visited this region during his pilgrimage to Łomża. It is still used during the most important holidays and celebrations.
