Narew National Park
Local name: Narwiański Park Narodowy
The Narew National Park, also known as the "Polish Amazon", is famous for its marshy areas and the picturesque Upper Narew Valley, which is one of the few valley in Europe that is naturally flooded. The Narew River flowing in this area also amazes with its appearance, because through continuous separation and joining, and many bends, it resembles a labyrinth.
The park is particularly noteworthy for its ornithofauna. You can meet 200 bird species here, of which 28 are endangered on a global or European scale. The swampy areas are a convenient place for rest and offer a large amount of food for birds. In addition to winged animals, the park is inhabited by about 40 species of mammals, 13 species of amphibians and numerous species of fish. The Narew National Park is the only national park in Poland where no strict protection area has been designated. Fishing is allowed here, as well as canoeing. Navigating the waters of the park is an additional tourist attraction, especially if you do in the local boats called "pychówki (push-boats)", which once served to transport hay and fish. In addition to water travel, the park also has numerous footbridges and bicycle routes running on the outskirts of the park.Less
