Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic

Local name: Opera i Filharmonia Podlaska

The Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic in Białystok is the most modern cultural centre in Eastern Europe. In the monumental building various kinds of spectacles are organized: from operas and musicals, to concerts and interactive fairy tales for the youngest spectators. In the building are located headquarters of the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic Orchestra, the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic Choir, the Children's Choir of the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic, and chamber groups.

In 2012, the new hall of philharmonic was inaugurated. A modern facility, built mainly of concrete and glass, perfectly fits in with the surroundings. Around the building there is a lot of greenery, ponds, and alleys for passers-by. On the roof of Opera an observation deck was created, of which the central part is occupied by a two-meter sculpture that weighs two tons of cast-iron, called the "Composer's head".

Inside the building there are: a large stage (the largest in Poland), an chamber stage and an amphitheatre. The room where the main theatre stage is located, is equipped with the second largest pipe organ in Poland, as well as modern equipment used during performances. Numerous trap dooors and 10 bridges have been installed there, on which glass screens are used to change the acoustics.

A foldable platform was placed in the room protecting the chamber scene, thanks to which it is possible to reduce or increase the number of places. In the amphitheatre you can admire amazing acoustics.
