Holy Mountain of Grabarka
The Orthodox church of the Transfiguration of Jesus on Mount Grabarka was built as a vote of gratitude for surviving the cholera epidemic that had hit this region in 1710. The historic wooden building burned down as a result of arson in 1990. In its place a brick temple was built (consecrated in 1998), retaining its former shape and proportions.
The wooden formwork makes the new temple look like its predecessor. The figural-ornamental polychrome covering the walls of the nave, presbytery and porch is the work of Jarosław Wiszenka from Mielnik. The icons composing the new iconostasis were made by Barbara and Michał Pieczonko from Warsaw, and the author of sculptures made in wood and copper is Wiaczesław Szum.Orthodox church of the Transfiguration of Jesus is the main temple on Grabarka. In place of chapel, set in 1710, in 1789, the church was built, which in the years 1884-1885 underwent general reconstruction: new walls have been built, the ceiling, floor, foundations, roof, and iconostasis have been replaced. In the 1960s, works on polychromes have been carried out in the church, in which participated, among others, Jerzy Nowosielski.Less
