Royal Gate

Local name: Brama Królewska

The Royal Gate is one of the two preseved gates of the Szczecin fortress. Originally, it was functioninga as a fortification and decorative facility. After renovation in 1994, there has been an art gallery, and since 2000 inside the Gate has been located a charming café "Brama Jazz Cafe".

The building had been built in the 18th century in the place of the former city walls on the occasion of the city capture by Prussia. It resembles an ancient triumphal arch. The gate preserved the war without any major damages, because it had been covered with ivy, the sculptures had been dismantled and hidden in the Arkonian Forest Park. They were found in 1967 and placed on the building again.

The northern façade is decorated with a shield with the Prussian eagle, and the gate is crowned with the sculptures of Hercules with the club and skin of the lion and Mars with the sword and shield. The entire building is covered with elements of arms, armor, shields and banners, which refers to the traditions of the ancient Romans associated with the triumphant derivative.
