Old Town Hall - Szczecin History Museum

Local name: Stary Ratusz – Muzeum Historii Szczecina

The historic Szczecin town hall was built in the 15th century, replacing the former wooden building at the Hay Market, which had served as the headquarters of the city authorities. The building is attracts attention by a mix of Gothic and Baroque features, which is a result of its several reconstructions.

Initially, there were located a shopping hall, a courtroom, a chamber of jurors, and a prison in the basement where prisoners waiting for the trial were held. The building was seriously damaged in 1944, and after the war it has been carefully reconstructed.

Today, the Old Town Hall is owned by the National Museum in Szczecin and presents historical and cultural exibitions related to the city. A restaurant is located in the Gothic basement.
