Sienny Market

The Hay Market, also known as the Old Market Square or the Rzepicha's Market Square, is the main square of the Old Town. It has a rectangular shape and a paved surface, and around it are both completely modern buildings and reconstructed historic tenement houses. Among them is also the Gothic building of the Old Town Hall, now serving as the Museum of the City of Szczecin.

The history of the Hay Market dates back to the Middle Ages. The square played the role of a marketplace where grain and hay were sold - from here the origin of the market name. The buildings around the square were significantly damaged during the World War II. After the war, the city authorities decided to rebuild the town hall and to dismantle the tenement houses, which were replaced by blocks of flats. It was only in the 1990s when works aimed at recreating the previous appearance of the market have started - a pavement, street lamps and a part of the tenement houses have been rebuilt.
