Port Gate

Local name: Brama Portowa

The Harbor Gate is, together with the Royal Gate, one of the two remained city gates from Prussian times in Szczecin. It was built between 1725 and 1727 in Baroque style according to the project of Gerhard Cornelius van Wallrawe - Dutch designer of fortifications.

The external wall was decorated by French sculptor Bartholomé Damart. The shield with the monogram of the founder of this object - King Frederick William I - was placed here. The panorama of Szczecin together with the old-Germanic god of the Oder Viadrus was put over the inscription. The oval shield with the coat of arms of Prussia is situated over the inscription. It's topped with a royal crown.

During World War II, in fear of destruction, a lot of decorations were removed. They were hidden in Arkoński Forest until the 1950s when they were found and put back on the gate. The shop with art supplies Capelia operated inside the Harbor Gate between 1976 and 2013. Since 2015, a small theater can be found here.
