The modern Szczecin museum is located in an architecturally interesting, 18th-century building of historical significance. The collections of the museum include collections of paintings, graphics, drawings, and sculptures by famous Polish and foreign artists from the last two centuries. Besides the permanent exhibitions, the institution organizes temporary exhibitions.
During the visit it is worth to look at the building itself, which for many decades served as the headquarters of the garrison military command of the Szczecin fortress. To this day, only a part of the original building has been preserved, which had been repeatedly rebuilt.In the collection of art the works of many Polish artists, among which there could not be missing such names as Stanisław Wyspiański, Jan Matejko, Jacek Malczewski, Tadeusz Makowski, and many others can be distinguished. This collection includes also the 20th-century colourists and representatives of the Krakow Group (Grupa Krakowska).The collection of foreign art includes the works of artists from Europe, America, and Asia, comprising totally of 614 objects from various fields of creativity.Less
