Market Square and Town Hall in Świebodzice
Local name: Rynek i ratusz w Świebodzicach
The market square in Świebodzice is the heart of the city. It originally served as a market square, and is now a meeting place for residents, as well as a square frequently visited by tourists. Around you can admire the historic buildings. The town hall is located in the central part of the market.
Tenements located at the market, which we can see today, come from the turn of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The previous buildings burned down during a great fire in 1774 that consumed the whole city.
The current town hall was built in 1779-1781, and then partially rebuilt in the twentieth century. It is a two-storey building erected on the letter T. It has a tower on which, halfway up, a viewing terrace surrounded by a stone balustrade was built. The building is covered with a gable roof with dormers. Currently, the town hall is the seat of the municipal authorities of Świebodzice.
