The shelter tunnel for staff trains under Żarnowska Góra in Strzyżów was built at the turn of 1940 and 1941. Together with the shelter in Stępin, it was part of Hitler's headquarters, "Anlage Süd" (Area South).
The shelter was supervised by the Todt Organization, apparently under the banner of a chemical company, to hide the real purpose of the facility. Unlike other railway shelters in Poland, the shelter in Strzyżów is an underground shelter and has been hollowed out near Żarnowska Góra. It is 438 m long and 8 m wide. The tunnel is closed by a two-part iron door with ventilators in the upper part and enclosed guard entries on both sides of the tunnel - the only ones preserved in Poland.
In August 1941, during Hitler's meeting with Mussolini in Stępin, the Amerika staff train was stationed in the tunnel in Strzyżów. In 1944 the tunnel was captured by the Home Army guerrillas. After the war, he served various functions: the Centrala Rybna warehouse, garage, and sewage treatment plant technical building. Currently open to the public.
