Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built at the beginning of the 18th century in late-Baroque style. It was entered in the register of objects of cultural heritage and recognized as a Minor Basilica. Its main altar consists of the copy of the painting depicting the Dormition and the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The painting was crowned with Pope's crown by Archbishop Lodovico Jacobini in 1877. The 16th-century original was burnt in 1968. Its copy was made by Professor Maria Niedzielska from the Kraków Academy of Fine Arts. The copy was crowned by Primate Stefan Wyszyński in 1972.The 18th-century monastery is adjoined to the basilica. It is a one-story building with a patio - a traditional garden in the shape of a rectangle. Nowadays, the monastery consists of seminary, library, and museum.Less
