Środa District Railway

Local name: Średzka Kolej Powiatowa

The history of the narrow gauge railway dates back to 1892. Its remains can be admired and used to this day. Train rides on the 14-km route from Środa Wielkopolska to Zaniemyśl are available during the tourist season. Visitors can also try their hand at draisine rides. What is more, the train can be booked for entire groups. There is also an offer of occasional trains rides.

The law regarding municipal railways was implemented at the end of the 19th century by the Kingdom of Prussia. The 59-km narrow gauge railway was built in 1902. In the 1950s, the reforging of the railroad track had started. It was to be liquidated merely ten years later but, thanks to the efforts of the Association of Friends of Środa District Railway "BANA", it was partially saved. The hall of memory dedicated to the railway was established in the former station building in Zaniemyśl while the Museum of Środa District Railway was founded in the railway station Środa Wielkopolska Miasto.
