The monumental Garrison Church is located in the city center. The church was built in 1712 in baroque style but without any decorations which were forbidden by the law of Reformati. The catacombs, where priests and main founders were buried, were located under the church.
Originally, it was the Reformati Monastery and Church which was built on the initiative of Andrzej Passakowicz who brought Reformati fathers from Jarosław. The building was created thanks to the generosity of Lubomirski family, especially Marianna, prince Jerzy Ignacy's wife, who, in the intention of family enlargement, donated few thousand zloty. In 1787 the church got in the occupant's hands, who had been using it as a warehouse. The legend says, that the picture of Mother of God, which sits on the presbytery's apse, was miraculously saved. No paint managed to cover it, and painter fell from the ladder several times. After regaining the independence, the military parish was established in the church. In the 1960s it was converted into the military-civilian parish.Less
